RN Educator - Surgical Services

Position Summary: Nursing Educators facilitate staff competency in providing Relationship-Based Care by using adult learning principles, demonstrating interest in and respect for learners, and creating an environment of safety for both patients and colleagues. Nursing Educators work in collaboration with the Education Department and other departments to assess, plan, develop, implement/coordinate and evaluate the learning process and skill acquisition of colleagues, students and instructors of affiliating schools. Collaborative functions include the orientation process, preceptor development and programming, continuing education, staff development, mandatory education, and new product/new process education.
Qualifications: BSN in Nursing with a minimum of three years recent nursing experience with increasing responsibility and interest in education, nursing practice and quality. Current unrestricted Michigan Nursing license. The ability to be flexible in scheduling to meet educational initiatives for all shifts in department. Knowledge of current professional nursing theory, evidence based practices in area of specialty. Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with nursing staff and management when teaching, providing feedback and/or facilitating teamwork. Demonstration of unit/department mandatory competencies. Technical and analytical skills necessary to observe nursing practice, identify learning needs and design effective programs Current CPR Instructor certification (American Heart Association) or ability to obtain within one year of acceptance. Willing to obtain department specific certification within 1-2 years of acceptance. Ability to use desktop computer including use of email and Microsoft office suite. Ability to walk and stand at least 50% of the time. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for over 90% of work time.

Participate in Course/Program Design and Evaluation of Outcomes:
Nurse Educators are responsible for formulating and evaluating course outcomes and designing courses/programs that reflect contemporary health care trends.
Will collaborate with the Director of Surgical Services and the Director of Education to coordinate, plan and implement CE (continuing education) programs.
Function as a Change Agent and Leader

Pursue Continuous Quality Improvement in the Nurse Educator Role

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
